For David and my family at their request; here's the story behind the 'ol pair of boots.
Actually there is a story behind my 'ol pair of boots David...
One day at my office, I found a brand new pair of boots sittin' on my drafting table with a post it and a note: "Your wish has come true; starting tomorrow you'll be going out in the field-You'll need these" (I had been asking my supervisor; to let me be out in the field for several years; to observe some of my design work to no avail....) I was a happy man! Next day I headed out to watch-work away from the office; never returning to my office till about five years later...The pair of boots were a blessing of sorts, best pair of work boots I've ever own! Even wore 'em while working out at the ranch; which explains the worn out toes from working with cattle and riding out in the pastures almost every afternoon. I still have 'em! Wolverine quit makin' 'em...They've been re-soled, re-heeled and patch over many times (Guess I should say patch under, the young guy over at the shoe repair place had the time of his life when I asked for the patch over the steel toe area to be done from the inside so as not to disrupt the overall appearance of my boots...He laughed and said: You don't think anyone will see the big 'ol patch across the toes? I reply by simply sayin' do what you can) I think I can get at least another ten years out of the 'ol pair...
We were at a local restaurant recently having breakfast with some friends when a young boy walked by, looked at my patched up boots and said: Cool boots mister, wher did you git 'em? I smiled and told 'im at the shoe store...He walked off with his dad and heard 'im say; dad, can I get a pair jist like 'em?
The boots were my one-way ticket out of the office for many years.
