My brother, the multi-tasker!
I could never imagine life without my brother Ricky...
For as long as I remember; his face, his gusto for life, his pranks, his love for rodeo have identified him as no other male in my family or for that matter not other friend of mine; he has been as solid as they come true to his heritage; to his family and most important to himself...
I tried to think of a time when Ricky was not the source, the butt, the prankster the one who kept our family in stitches in one way or another. His demeanor has always been of someone from another generation holding on to standards uncommon in our day; at times due to his physical appearance and how much he reminds us of our father; we almost get the "feeling" it is his persona; not Ricky who walks around us to make us aware how much family matters; to hang on to a past long gone when his physical body left this earth. Ricky has always been the favorite of everyone in my family; the one we all gravitate towards when times get a little tough and we need an escape to make every day a little easier...
When he was a teen-ager, he already was a superb horseman; we all knew it, we knew what his favorite sport was we all recognize his walk coming down the hallway or from the garage or from the corral where he use to train himself after everyone was asleep or barley awake in the early morning hours. Under the moonlight he would spend hours practicing what he thought in need of improvement. We all recognize his spurs jingle, as he ran from one barn to the next taking care of his chores as soon as possible so he could make one more run/round in one of his horses. When he made it back to the house after milking the cow; his walk had a certain sound so that we all knew it was him coming in; we knew when he walked to the cattle guard and make sure the side gates were locked for he had forgotten to shut; all his horses left running out to the open pasture meaning he had to find one and round em all up again or borrow my pickup which he disliked..."Why do we need a pickup truck; when I have my horse" he use to say; Why do you think God made horses instead of vehicles? His perspective on life, his logic, his personal view on many things has always been disarming; at times I simply look at im and shrug my shoulders.
Now I see him driving in to visit or occasionally he spends a few days with us when Laura is away with her family and I can't help to feel a little pride of my only brother; in the morning especially, I hear him walking to have early coffee with me; I watch him leave to take care of the his place and feel so proud to see the figure of my brother as handsome as ever! But especially smile when I hear his boots/spurs announcing his comings and going's...such is my brother Ricky ♪♪♪♪♪♪...

A follow-up to a previous post I did way back when...A post for my brother Ricky back on 9/14/2010 with many thanks for everything he does for myself & our entire family. May he be around for many; many years~

One day not long ago, I wrote a family book for my only surviving brother … For Ricky
This is a follow up to some of the unfinished stories-photos for such a purpose. Ricky’s gusto & energy for life is truly contagious; infective & admirable. After my vehicle accident; one thing it’s apparent; my brother means much more now than he did prior…
One of Ricky’s nemesis is a cool pair of boots & a great pair of spurs right along a well made to fit saddle. His love affair with boots; spurs and saddles goes way back to his teen years when he first learned how to ride. He would spend his entire allowance locating one or the other; saving his hard earn summer pay; to purchase one or two which lead to many trips all over the area locating his next acquisition. All in our family are aware how much he likes a cool pair of boots as much as a unique pair of spurs or a nicely made saddle. To such extent, under the present circumstance; I located a custom boot maker in Fort Worth whom I decided to engage for a couple of made to fit pair of boots. One pair, was to be made for Ricky the other pair for my brother in-law Scot who I consider-admire-love as much as Ricky. When the boots were completed I asked my brother to drive me out to Fort Worth without stating the purpose; he obliged! We had a grand time traveling; just the two of us…We spent about four days in the city; visited some family; checked out some museums even had time to visit big D for a day doing the JFK museum. When he saw the new pair of boots; In his own unique true style, Ricky couldn’t wait to try on the new pair; he decided to wear ‘em around cow town (As most people refer to the city of Fort Worth) looking at his brand new pair just like a kid with a brand new toy! While we drove around; I couldn’t resist to take some photos which in turn lead to a follow up of my previous story on Ricky Tha_man born to be a Texan~
Enjoy the post friends…
PART 5 of a series on my brother Ricky
….
My Brother Ricky’s zest for life is contagious! His passion for rodeo is second to none; his gusto for life-living is so uniquely obvious; you wanna be around him as much time as possible. His energy is limitless pushing mine to its limits and almost everyone else’s. He knows no strangers and makes friends with just about everyone-anyone…such is the main reason why we all in our family love him as much and enjoy tremendously when he is present turning every occasion into an affair to remember! The minute he knows we’re in town or at home; he makes his presence known…we hear the peculiar sounds of his spurs (I’m not sure if he makes it on purpose or he just enjoys life and being a Texan so much; it’s reflected in every aspect of his persona; physically, emotionally and especially the way he speaks…) and we know he is around! Outside by the back door, his riding gear-tack usually denote he’s at home. He use to walk right inside into the kitchen-family room; wearing his spurred boots till Laura put a stop one day; reminding him how mom would never allow anyone; not even dad, to wear spurs or hats inside the house. The back porch by the back door at his house or our community table next to our breakfast room use to be his place to leave all his riding gear including saddles. One day I had a talk with Ricky and told him the story about how grandma had what use to call: A come to Jesus meeting with grandpa to make sure he understood explicitly (Grandpa use to do the very same thing as Ricky regarding walking inside the house wearing his hat and spurs…) he was no longer a bachelor but a married man and needed to conduct himself as such…When grandpa told me the story he said: Your grandma had a way with words and a look about herself to make you realize she was not ever gonna say the same phrase twice!
