A post for my brother Ricky ... Early to bed and early to rise. ~
.
Once in a while, not very often but just often enough to remind me we are mere human; my brother Ricky does something to restore my confidence in humanity; to make me feel so dang proud of him and my family. Ricky's love for rodeo is only surpassed by his love for horses; his love for the land we live in, his love for ranching, anything and everything to do with working with animals and the land. Some days, if I have a camera at hand, I am blessed to capture some of those moments I refer to...
One day while relocating some cattle for winter grazing; I saw my brother busy at work, taking his time moving the cattle when I realize he'd stopped for a moment's rest. At first I thought it was to allow the cattle to cool off, drink some water and move on...at closer look, I saw him communicating non verbally with his working horse as he does from time to time while at work. What caught my attention (My wife happened to be with me on this day and asked me to stop and observe from a distance camera ready at hand...) He was sitting on his saddle, playing with Red's mane in a sort of "Let me assure you everything is OK for the moment bud" It was simply magnificent! My wife was taking some photos and continue on for quite some time...she probably took a couple of hundred shots. This is one of my favorites~
My grandfather use to say to my dad many moons ago: "There's nothing better in life than for a man to work right under the Texas western sky"! I still remember those words; as a matter of fact; I can almost see grand's face and hear his voice right about now...ain't it beautiful to have such lingering; long lasting memories' of those we love, to carry us through the not so happy moments?
