Aquatic Sow Bug

Somewhat difficult to see is an aquatic sow bug at the top center of this photo. This creature is a crustacean akin to the crawdad, but very small - perhaps a half-inch in length. It is a 14-legged macroinvertibrate that is somewhat tolerant of low levels of water pollution. It is a part of the food chain suitable for pan fish and bass. This one was in a wetland pothole in Miller Ecological Park in Lebanon, Ohio
