Trying to learn with the zonal focussing technique beloved of street photographers. Here we see the advantage and disadvantage of the system.

You set the camera to manual focus and choose your distance. I set mine to 5 feet and practised on fence posts and such like until I got an idea how close 5 feet is. It's flipping close when pointing the camera surreptitiously at strangers! The idea is then by narrowing your aperture you ensure as wide a depth of field as is practical and everything within the zone of around 5 feet will be in focus. You then fire from the hip at anyone or anything in range. Obviously proper street photographers also select fascinating, provocative or humorous juxtapositions and compositions - I was just playing with the focus, trying to learn.

The advantages are that without having to focus on this passing posse I got them sharp enough for a usable shot. the disadvantage is without looking at the camera I didn't get them in the frame!
