Spirit Halloween interior

Spirit Halloween #60980 (30,762 square feet)

9110-A West Broad Street, Tuckernuck Plaza, Richmond, VA

Operated September 13th, 2024-November 3rd, 2024; originally part of Farm Fresh Super Saving Center (opened in October 1985), later The Grocery Store (opened August 6th, 1989), Rack & Sack/Drug Emporium (November 5th, 1995-late 1990s), Mars Music (March 2000-fall 2002), Sam Ash Music (summer 2003-July 21st, 2024)

My favorite Spirit of the day, by far, was this one. This is a former Sam Ash Music that's operated right next door to a Guitar Center for the past twenty years, and they just shuttered back in July along with the rest of the company. That means that they did absolutely nothing to this store aside from moving out salesfloor fixtures since Spirit snatched the space up pretty quickly, and the storefront signage for Sam Ash is even still on display without a Spirit banner! I had debated on visiting this Sam Ash during this closing sale, but between not having an opportunity to do so and also not being a musician I opted not to, so I am thankful that Spirit gave me the opportunity to see what their store looked like. And just what does it look like? Straight outta the early 2000s! I'm assuming that the overall aesthetic and buildout is from when it opened as Mars Music in March 2000 (notice the occupancy sign above the sliding doors is from that February), and when it became Sam Ash they just changed some minor things like department signage. Most of the salesfloor is carpeted with a few areas sporting red/purple/yellow tilework, and the walls use slatwall that would've displayed instruments. There are a few separate rooms towards the back of the store, but those areas weren't' accessible.
