Having passed this 7-Eleven during several commutes in Norfolk I've always asked myself: just how does 7-Eleven reuse an old Shoney's restaurant space? Well, on this trip I finally decided to venture in and find out for myself, as a Big Gulp sounded like a good idea (and ended up being free thanks to the gracious counter employee!). As I should've expected, 7-Eleven gutted the hell outta this space and built it out to their standards, so there are absolutely no remnants of it having been a chain buffet eatery. The only Shoney's characteristic that's noticeable from the inside is their solarium-style front windows, which certainly is a welcome artifact since you wouldn't typically see a 7-Eleven with something like that. The rest of the salesfloor is standard 7-Eleven fare. Maybe one of these days I'll actually document one of the alive Shoney's in the state!
