Event Horizon

One of the most grand views one could lay their eyes on at night was that of the Halemaumau Crater on the Big Island of Hawaii. With a massive lake of lava inside, the crater would emit the gases and smoke which would then glow bright orange as they reflected the light of the lava within the crater. A true spectacle. I had photographed on several occasions over the years, but on this particular night the stars aligned (figuratively and literally) and allowed me and my friends to shoot it as the moon rose and the Milky Way twisted across the sky. Unfortunately this view longer exists the it once did. After the volcanic activity of 2017/2018, the lava lake drained and much of the crater collapsed. It’s really fascinating to read about. I’m glad I was lucky enough to get to spend some time in this area before it went kaput. But anyway, you can see more images of the volcano and lava, as well as learn how I edit my images at www.ryandyar.com πŸ‘πŸ‘
