Picasso’s portraits of Marie-Therese Walter (1909-1977) are often identified by the figure’s blonde mane, rose flesh , and voluptuous curves. Here, she is the exemplar of fertility, with wide hips and a well-defined bosom. This role is echoed in the blossoming flowers that surround the sleeping muse.
