Ready for Anything

The "pedestal" is the "stand," that the call or fire box is affixed upon. Many are ornate, such as fluted, with inlay design work, and shapely. Some are simply called "security posts," and are "poles" inbeded in the cement or ground. At the top of the pedestal, is often a "collar," a rounded edges, bowl like object. It is what is often on the pedestal, to have the harp, set into.

The "harp" is the "frame" that the police call box, or fire alarm box, fits into. It may be a double sided harp, with a fire alarm box on one side, and a police call box on the other side.

The "finial" is any decorative or practical object (light) on top of the box or harp. Sometimes (often) there is no "harp." The floor of box is bolted into a shelf or platform, sitting atop the security post (pole) or pedestal. It is referred to as "base mounted."
