The Byre

Blakemoorgate settlement

A group of smallholding built by the miners of nearby Snailbeach Lead mine. They lived a difficult life of self sufficiency on a windswept moor at about 1350 feet or 410 metres above sea level. Reconstructed from a semi derelict ruin by Natural England.
