McWay Falls

McWay Falls is a short walk from the parking lot. The entrance is located right off the highway in Big Sur. When arrived at Parking lot, there was a sigh “Parking Full”. The guy standing beside the gate, I asked him if parking spot available, he said, Yes. He asked me if I have signal on my cell phone. I checked, no signal at all. There was no cell signal in Big Sur. He said his car key was locked inside the car, no people around in this area. We gave him one card, read from somewhere, the card may help opening the door. When we parked the car, ready to hike to McWay Falls, he came with a brick, he said, the card won’t work for his car, he had to break the car window using brick to get the key… So sorry for him. And he said this was the second time he locked himself!

Walked down stairs to a paved path which leads through a tunnel, and the path meanders to McWay Falls. The falls are half a mile hike from the parking lot and are viewed where the path stops on a cliff side above and across a cove from the waterfall itself. It would be hard to get a good view of the waterfalls when the path is crowded. There is not a safe way to access the beach, so watching McWay Falls from this viewing platform. Few people there, other people came and left… The Falls was not huge by the height and flow. The fresh water from the creek turns into a waterfall that spills onto the beach sand. Sunset time, standing there enjoying that moment for couple of hours. There’s one bench at the viewpoint if need to take a break.
