Morant’s Curve
Morant’s Curve is a beautiful area that the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) passes through along the Bow River. The location is not far from Lake Louise. The CPR train snakes its way along the Bow River in the shadow of the Canadian Rockies. Some patience is required if you want a shot with a train in it. The majority of trains that pass through Morant’s Curve are freight trains and unfortunately there is no schedule that can be followed.
If you enjoy trains, have seen CPR photos of trains with a mountain and Bow River scenic backdrop, then you must have seen the historic, beautiful scenic vista in photos. Made famous by CPR photographer Nicholas Morant, this beautiful location is perfect to photograph mountains, trains, or both. Surprisingly close in proximity to Lake Louise townsite, this is a nice scenic viewpoint to take some awesome scenery photos. Well worth stopping at and if you’re lucky the train will pass through when you are there.
Stopped here twice, first time, waited two hours to see a train passing by with all the white containers… It was a lucky stop this time, waited about 10~20 minutes, saw the colorful freight train passing through. It was a long freight train with all the colorful containers, it was relative fast freight train, totally about 5 minutes for all the containers passing by... ;)) Even without the train though, it is worth a quick stop if you’re on highway 1A already. There’s a parking spot off the side of the highway, and even though it isn’t a very busy highway.
