By 1871 he had moved with his family to Halifax Yorkshire and was an apprentice printer
In 1881 he was boarding at a house in Louth and the census records him as an Artist in Photography (this is the line he uses on the back of his cdv photos).
His photographic studio was known as the Alexandra Studio based at 1 Ramsgate Louth
He married in Nottingham in 1881 Ada Pilling from Lancashire and had 3 children Ethel Muriel and Francis.
In 1891 he was living at 172 Eastgate Louth with his wife and 3 children
By 1901 he had had a change of occupation and was working as a Hotel Manager of the Halfway House and this was also the situation in 1911
He died in Darlington in 1936
