Portrait of a Lady by Slingsby of Lincoln

CDV portrait by Slingsby of Lincoln. The photographer was a Robert Slingsby who was living in Lincoln in the 1870's.He was based at 168 High St Lincoln.

Slingsby was born in Leicester in 1839 according to census records. Initially like many Victorian photographers was also a stationer and dealer in artist supplies.

The 1881 census indicates he was living at 168 High St Lincoln next to to the Royal Oak Pub. He was a widower with 3 daughters Ethel Augusta and Irene all below the age of 5 and 3 servants

In 1891 he was living at 168 High St Lincoln with 3 daughters Ethel Beatrice and Augusta. No mention of Irene but there is an elder daughter Alice who is working as a photographic reception room attendant

He died in Lincoln in 1895

This photo is part of a wonderful illustrated Victorian photograph album I believe called "The Thames "by Marcus Ward Company Ltd.

The album contains a mixture of 60 cabinet and cdv photographs and was bought at a flea market in Beccles Suffolk in
