Appreciation

The thing I really appreciate about film is how long it takes. It makes every image I take that much more special, it is treated with more care, composition is very important, and the edits I make to it are thought out more and considered.

For this shot, I drove 2 hours after waking up at 4a.m. I could see the red glow of the clouds while I stood on the headland, excited about what was about to happen. I ran around at different compositions before finally clicking the shutter speed. That took an hour. I then drove home. The film sat in my cupboard for three months before being developed. I wait and waited until my scanner arrived, and then spent 1 hour scanning it in at the highest quality. I then spent 1 hour taking all the dust particles of that shot, and another hour editing, cropping, resizing and thinking how this shot would look best. And here it is.

One thing about staring at one photo for an hour is looking at all the intricate details of the photograph. You might not see it, but the sun rays are shining through this headland - the slight orangey glow when you really zoom in. Amazing.
