Apr 2019 - Remaining original luggage wagon No14 of Southwold Railway resident at East Anglia Transport Museum.
This is one of two luggage wagons originally owned by the Southwold Railway.
After closure of the Railway in 1929 the rolling stock was near enough left to rot. In 1962 this luggage wagon was discovered behind a wall in an allotment in Halesworth. It had escaped the call for metal to be used for weapon making in WW2. The fragility of the wagon prevents it from being used as a working item, but a replica is being build by the Southwold Railway Trust.
The 3 foot narrow gauge railway ran between Southwold and Halesworth where it connected to the London / Norwich line, opening in 1879, closing 1929.
The Southwold Railway Trust are working to re-established and re-open parts of it, helping to ensure it is preserved and remembered. There is lots more information about the Railway and details about the Southwold Railway Trusts sterling work on their site.
The 2 foot gauge East Suffolk Light Railway track can be seen in the background of this photo.
