Food Delivery at the Wren House
With the eagle activity slowing down, I have focused on other birds. These House Wrens (Troglodytes aedon) are fun to watch. There is a constant supply of food being flown in, though the birds check around before they approach the nest. As soon as the food is placed into the box, one can hear the excitement among the younglings.
There is quite a variety of insects that is brought in: grasshoppers, spiders, flies, moths... Some insects are quite big but others are so small that one wonders if their nutrititional value might even be less than the energy expended to catch them. Yet, the parents work relentlessly at feeding their young.
Photographed at the Riverside Nature Trail in Strathcona County, Alberta.
