Also from the new building I'm 'client' for (see next photo), this is Canadian Western Red Cedar from certified sustainable sources. Rather than build another 'crinkly tin shed', I took the architect's advice and agreed to clad the building in wood. They've designed a subtly repeating pattern of vertical cedar slats, which feature planks of different width and depth, giving a varied visual effect depending upon the time of day and the angle from which it is viewed. One of those decisions which feel quite risky when you make them, but which feel really good when the results work.
