Oasis

So we're working our way up the Shafer Trail, never been there before, no expectation of anything but the usual desert and suddenly, there's THIS.

Brilliant azure water, red rock and blue sky. We've somehow wandered onto an empty Pixar set and the animated bugs and cars and jackalopes are right around the next corner filming the Wild West Scene.

It's actually a bit more mundane: they're evaporation ponds for a potash mine. But only a little bit more mundane, because any operation that uses laser-controlled giant 25-ton scraper-loaders is A-OK in my book!

The official (and unexpectedly well-produced and informative) description can be found here.

We might well have some of southern Utah in our water softener right now.
