I had a suspicion that the sunrise could be good on this morning. NOAA had predicted the leading edge of the next system would be rolling into the Bay Area early in the morning. I arrived at Hawk Hill around 6:15, and it was mostly clear looking out towards the East Bay. I thought to myself, "Skunked again!" I shot the blue hour with a few patchy clouds in the distance, and wasn't too impressed, but I began to notice lots of clouds coming in off the Pacific Ocean. There were a few other photographers up there, and we all knew what was about to happen. You could hear, "Oh My God!" coming from a few mouths. For me, it was truly a phenomenal event. I remember walking in front of my camera at one point to wipe my lens, and I was looking into the glass seeing the reflection of the exploding sky behind me; I looked around at people's faces, and there was a pinkish, orange glow on everyone.
The lights on the Golden Gate Bridge were turned off by then, but sky gave us a light show I will never forget.
In addition I also got to finally meet two of my Flickr contacts, John, and Andrew Loui.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year!
