The 'Tower'

This was the last photograph I took in 2013, so I hope you like the first post of 2014.

For a large portion of my life, I'd open my bedroom window and this would be the sight that lay before me. This is the Lloyd's Signal tower at Malin head, Co. Donegal.

This 'Tower', built in 1805 and once the hub of all communications that crossed the Atlantic, has seen some remarkable events. In 1902 the Marconi Company succeeded in sending the first commercial message by wireless from Malin Head to the ship S.S. Lake Ontario thus establishing Malin Head as an important staging post for future trans-Atlantic communication. Its was manned during the two World Wars and stood tough against everything the wild Atlantic has been able to throw at it.

and the view........well that speaks for itself.
