My Key

For Macro Mondays theme "High Key"

My first attempt at high key, macro or not.

I used my Ikea table with a milky white glas top, perfect for table top macros, always.

I chose a relative flat subject to prevent large shadows so I wouldn't need to mask them.

I started out with TTL flash, straight from above. That didn't work, too much white reflections from the surface stopped the flash too fast.

Then I reverted to full manual exposure & flash: ISO100 for IQ, 1/60sec for easy sync speed, f/8 for DOF. With this set, I controlled the amount of light only by increasing or decreasing the flash burst manually.

The picture came out quiet well, but....

the sun started to shine through the sheer curtains right on my subject, plenty of nicely filtered, natural light.

With a bold 2 stops over-exposure and no flash this is the better result.

Histogram check: not hitting the right edge, but peaking just left of it.
