Payless Drug Store Walnut Creek,CA
Former Payless Drug Store located at 1997 Tice Valley Blvd. in Walnut Creek,CA. The 17,521 square foot store was built by Payless Drug in late 1995 although it would be short-lived as the chain would be acquired by Rite Aid in 1997. This store was one of the few Thrifty/Payless hybrid stores where "Thrifty Ice Cream" was sold at a "Payless Drug Store" due to the exceptionally short-lived merger between Thrifty and Payless. There were a few additional Payless stores which carried Thrifty Ice Cream located in Pleasant Hill, Fremont, and San Ramon,CA. The interior of this store featured the last decor package used by Payless prior to the acquisition by Rite Aid.
UPDATE 12/22/2021, the store closed abruptly in April 2021. Note the interior of the store underwent a substantial renovation in 2015 removing just about all of the Payless decor.
