Tynset is located in upper Østerdalen by Norway's longest river, the Glomma. The mountain you see on the left is Tronfjell, 1666 m high.

The lowest officially recorded temperature in Tynset is minus 46.6 degrees Celsius and the warmest recorded temperature is 31.3 degrees Celsius.

The winter of 1977/78 in particular was extremely cold with temperatures as low as minus 52 degrees Celsius (not officially confirmed by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute).
