The exact time when the Klus was built is unknown, it was first mentioned in a document in 1224. It may have belonged to a Benedictine monastery founded in the 9th century by the hermit Thetwif and renovated by Bishop Milo of Minden in 992, which had already been relocated to Minden around 1000.
