9.14.06: Book orders.
Babysitting for Y + L, the son and daughter of a married couple of composers. They called me out of the blue a few months ago in an emergency situation, and the kids liked me well enough that I've been invited back a few times.
It was a late night and I was a little drowsy, so I spent some time reorganizing the kitchen table. Amidst the homework assignments and permission slips was a Scholastic book order, looking exactly like it did 15 years ago. I guess it's altogether possible that Scholastic book orders will never change -- or need to change. They're still incredibly cheap, still printed on tissue-thin newsprint, and still have a tiny order form on the back page (next to the clubs, which are still there). Even the titles haven't changed much -- this issue was touting reduced-price copies of How to Eat Fried Worms (with movie tie-in cover) and Ramona the Pest.
And Puppies! I hope Lizzie finds them a home.
