Broad Scarlet is a darter dragonfly. The males are highly territorial and often observed perching on a branch or rock near running and standing waters. They dislike shade and can be seen patrolling through the desert and open woodland habitats. This species of dragonfly is rare to the UK, but common to the warmer, southern parts of Europe.
This male was seen in a semi-desert area of Senegal, West Africa.
