Blue Rock Thrush - Monticola solitarius

The male Blue Rock Thrush is one of my favourite European birds… This medium-sized thrush-like bird is often seen on mountainsides, sea cliffs, quarries, ruins, and even in towns. Male birds are dark blue all over, and are usually unmistakable. This example was one of several I saw on a trip to Spain, although a long-staying male caused quite a flap among birders when it was found on a housing estate in Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire, in 2017.
