TNT Bunkers

TNT Bunkers

Point Pleasant

West Virginia

What was known as the WV Ordinance Works in WWII has been closed since 1946. 8,000 acres with 3,500 workers turned out 1/2 million pounds of TNT a day. Today there are dozens of these igloo-like storage buildings overgrown in a marshy swampland. The walls are several feet thick. There are still unexploded munitions buried who knows where. In fact in 2010 one of these igloos exploded with 20,000 pounds inside. The entire area has massive ground contamination. I hiked to only five of them. The echo in the room is surreal, especially in the center.

To add to it, this area is the origins to the Mothman sightings in the 60's. Prompting the book in 1976, The "Mothman Prophecies".
