Golden Pheasant
This colourful bird, also known as the rainbow pheasant, is native to the forests and mountains of western China. Apart from the breeding season, they tend to be solitary birds and rather shy, keeping to dark, dense woodland. They are essentially ground foragers, living mainly on a diet of insects, seeds, as well as plant shoots and leaves.
This one, the male of the species, is a more showy than the slightly duller female. Due to its beautiful bold coloured plummage, it is kept as an ornamental bird in many parts of the world, particularly the West, where it has also been released into the wild.
Many thanks for your comment, which are most appreciated!
