Hovering Marsh Harrier (circus aeruginosus)

This, the largest harrier, is found throughout Europe and parts of Asia. During winter it migrates to Africa.

Following a spectacular courtship ritual, wheeling and tumbling from a great high with talons interlocked, it settles down to the serious business of breeding.

This one, a male, was hovering over the reeds in search of food for its young, which includes amphibians, small mammals and birds.

Many thanks for your visits, comments and favs, which are greatly apreciated. Have a blessed and safe weekend!
