Magpie moth (abraxas grossulariata}
MANY THANKS FOR YOUR KIND COMMENTS AND FAVS........ PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT MY PHOTOSTREAM, FOR GENERAL PHOTOS ACROSS THE WHOLE SPECTRUM NATURE AND WILDLIFE.
This spectacular looking moth is of medium size and is on the wing between June and August, throughout most of the Northern Hemisphere, where it is found in a variety of habitats. The caterpillars have a similar speckled colouration and feed on different shrubs, such as hazel, hawthorn, pivot and currant bushes. They overwinters as caterpillars and pupates in late spring, before emerging in the butterfly-like form of the adult moth. They are attracted to light, which would explain why this particular one turned upon the bathroom floor!
