Pouring Concrete
The difficulties of building in a densely-populated city. In the tiny sidestreet facing our apartment they poured concrete for the second-storey slab yesterday. All day the building labourers became traffic wardens, preventing motorists from parking in the surrounding streets, so that the succession of large vehicles could have access. Even so, it was a problem fitting them into these tiny narrow streets, and around the tight corners (the kerbstones have been thoroughly destroyed). The little olive tree suffers the abuse and indignity with fortitude. All this is taking place just over a year after the neighbouring house was constructed, and two years after another one up the hill from us, so it is virtually a continuous process.
