B&W-Mantis-#5

I was experimenting with Ilford Pan F Plus ISO 50 Black and White film in these shots. I found several things I like about the film. It's an extremely fine grain film. I was experimenting with depth of field in these mantis shots. Some were shot handheld with a very shallow depth of field to throw the background out of focus and give surreal bokeh. Others were shot with a tripod, small aperture and slow shutter speed. Yashica FX-3 Super 2000, Vivitar series 1 28-90mm F2.8-3.5 Macro lens, Tiffen Yellow #8 filter, Ilford Pan F Plus film, Hand held at F2.8 This was done with a super shallow depth of field. I wanted to isolate the head and eyeball of the mantis and throw everything else out of focus. We were indeed eyeball to eyeball in this shot. He was watching me and I was watching him. My front lens element was about 2 inches from his head. I was shooting at 28mm, Wide open as close as I could possibly focus.
