Striped Honeyeater
The Striped Honeyeater (Plectorhyncha lanceolata) is a medium-sized honeyeater found mainly in eastern and south-eastern Australia. It prefers drier open forests, but it can also be found in heathland and mangrove environments in southern Queensland and south to the central coast of New South Wales. Its short and thick bill reflects its mainly insect diet, but it maintains the honeyeater's brush tongue, which allows it to feed on the nectar from shallow flowers such as tea trees and eucalyptus blossoms. Males and females are similar in appearance. This individual was encountered in mallee scrub in South Australia.
