Knee Deep, Wrights Lake

Last Thursday I got to the lake just in time for sunset. The air was warm and still. The water was glassy. I kicked off my boots and slipped quietly into the water. It was surprisingly warm. It was quiet. The voices of happy campers carried across the water. My shutter clicked softly. I remembered back to last December when I waded out to the same spot, only then I was surrounded by ice floating in the water and the mountains were flocked with new snow.

I was thinking about this the other day, how each image carries with it a collection of memories for the photographer. Others only see a lovely scene. But when the artist views the image he or she is flooded with memories of that day. It may be images of a long hike, or the cold wind cutting through layers of clothes. A long drive through the dark before dawn, or perhaps time spent with a friend. More than light is captured. It's like time in a bottle. Looking at our photos is like flipping through a journal.

Thanks for stopping by and hopefully this image brings to mind a few good memories for you as well. If not, well, I suggest getting out and spending some time next to a still mountain lake. Cheers
