Runtastic Stats for Year 2018

⚠️This has now been replaced with an updated later version to be found at Training History 2015-2020 [Clustered Column] - [My photo on Flickr]

A good year for consistent physical activity!

…………… ▲ Hover mouse pointer over chart for 2015 & 2016 stats ☝️

This shows my Runtastic stats as at the end of 2018, my fifth year of using the Runtastic app to record activities in my fitness regime. My first year, 2014, was only a partial year, so not entirely representative. That was the year that Helen got me back running again after a layoff of over 20 years.

The four activities shown here are the primary activities that I like to keep track of. I also play badminton over the winter period. My two priority targets are 400 Kms for Running, and 2,000 Kms for cycling. I was particularly pleased with my 53 Kms of swimming this year, helped by my stay at Alb Camping, Westerheim - [Official web site], and regular swimming at 5-Taeler-Bad [Official web site] in Geislingen. I shall also make 50 Kms my annual swimming target n future years.

I was able to continue to pursue all four of my main activities during my lengthy stay in Germany during the late summer and autumn of 2018.

P.S. It will be noted from the stats above that my annual swim distances have dropped off quite considerably. This is due to the closure of the Riverside Leisure Centre pool due to a fire on 21 February 2017, at 4.16pm, There is no information from the local authority at present on a possible date of the pool reopening. I have modified my fitness practice accordingly. I now cycle alternate weeks to either Dawlish or Exmouth, and swim in their leisure centre pools. This has been advantageous to my annual cycle distance, but detrimental to my annual swim distance. Should Riverside one day reopen, I shall return to a twice weekly swim regime, possibly one of which will remain at Dawlish and Exmouth centres.

(24/07/2021): See Tweets links below giving details of reopening of Riverside L.C. in Exeter.

P.P.S. - Runtastic - Retiring Web Presence

On Friday 19th July 2019 I received with dismay an email from Runtastic (see here: Runtastic - Retiring Web Presence) informing me that the Runtastic web features, such as those used to produce the activity statistics shown here, are about to be 'retired'. These statistics, for 2018 year-end, will therefore be the last of their kind that I can produce. I sometimes think the world is in reverse and we're losing the means to do things we have at one time achieved. It's such a shame. Thank you for your interest to-date.

It would seem that I shall be looking for an alternative activity tracker application before the year is out. In fairness to Runtastic, they're not the first to close their fitness website. Google closed their Google Fit website 19/03/2019 (see: 'Google Fit website will shut down March 19, but don’t panic' [Slashgear 22/02/2019]). So, it would seem to be a backward trend that is happening at this moment of time. Odd, at a time when governments everywhere are saying we need to be fitter.

If anyone out there knows of a web-based statistical fitness reporting site that remains operational, I'd be delighted to hear about it. All responses welcome.
