East window, Aston Abbotts church.
This beautiful east window in Aston Abbotts church is dedicated to Rear Admiral Sir James Clarke Ross (d.1862) who discovered the Magnetic Pole in 1831.
He lived at the only large house 'The Abbey' to the west of the village, on the site of a country seat of the Abbot of St. Albans, from where the village gets half its name.
During World War II 'The Abbey' was home to President Benes of Czechoslovakia in exile.
