Mad-onna in a Joel Grimes Style 9/52 62/366

This week the theme is in the style of another photographer. I've gone with Joel Grimes Joel Grimes Photography. Joel Grimes works primarily in hyper-real portraiture where equal weighting is often given to the background. I like this photographic style too.

I've used two photographic daylight lights and aimed the gantry spot lamps to create a flare. The disco lights/laser projector is also on random, so it was pot-luck on the pattern showing on the back wall.

I have used a similar process to Joel: The background image is a triple HDR exposure of the background with another overlay of the underexposed image to make the lights work better. Then the subject layer single exposure with HDR processing. Shot on a tripod (so everything lines up) wiith a 15mm Sigma DG EX fish-eye which made it all w-i-d-e-s-c-r-e-e-n as the lens has a 180° field of view.

Joel tends to use desaturated backgrounds and some selective colour so I have done the same, and cropped to 16:9. I also added the overhead light's flare as he's occasionally done that too.

The main difference is that the subject isn't quite as close-up as Joel would go for and Joel does a much better job as a skin-tone strobist. It was my daughter Maddie's 80's themed birthday party so this is Mad-on-a coffeee table
