HOLY MASCARA, MARY!

Whatever happened to the Mary Kay Pink Cadillac? Has the iconic Mustang Muscle Car given way to a -- uh, what would you call it -- Mustang Makeup Car?

Has the iconic Mustang Muscle Car given way to a -- uh, well, what would you call it -- OK, let's call it what it appears to be . . . a Mustang Makeup Car?

For years and years MARY KAY COSMETICS rewarded their top sales achievers with a girly, girly Pink Cadillac. Then it seemed the wheels, so to speak, began falling off the MK incentive program when Mary passed on. Today, the MK stable of career cars has been expanded to include -- in addition to the pink Cadillacs -- Chevrolet Malibu, Equinox, Camry, the black Mustang, and the pink Cadillac.

Career cars are awarded around the globe. In European countries like the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain, the car is a pink Mercedes-Benz. In Argentina, it’s a pink Ford. In Taiwan, it’s a pink Toyota and in China, it’s a Volkswagen Santana.

From the MARY KAY website...

“The Career Car Program provides the independent sales force the opportunity to earn the use of a visible symbol of success,” Darrell Overcash, president of Mary Kay Inc. in the United States, said in a statement. “Each car in this exciting incentive program reflects the hard work, determination and professionalism of the independent sales force. The coveted pink Cadillac is the ultimate, most recognizable symbol of achievement.”

BUT... Once a consultant “wins” their car, they DO NOT own it, nor do they get to keep it unless they and their team maintain a specified level of production for every month that follows. Mary Kay actually calls the arrangement a “Co-op Lease”. Depending on the net production of your team, you will either owe the full lease payment, a portion of it, or nothing. The lease agreement lasts for 24 months. If you fail to meet minimum production requirements for several months, you will lose the car.

So, unlike diamonds, Mary Kay's cars are not forever. :-)
