ESI W Florida Index 45 - Tahiti Beach Bird Roost 1 8/17/06

Along this extreme Northeast corner of St. Vincent NWR, there lies an area known as "Tahiti Beach" for its exotic beauty and abundance. An elevated bluff comprised of ancient middens of oyster shell, supports a of hammock of mixed hardwoods and cabbage palms that reaches down nearly to the water's edge. The perches among the larger old trees that have succumbed to salt water and erosion, are a favorite foraging, roosting and nesting place for raptors, wading birds and vultures.
