Battle of Maldon Millennium Window!
The Battle of Maldon took place in 991AD beside the River Blackwater in Essex, England, during the reign of Aethelred the Unready. Earl Byrhtnoth and his theIgns led the English against a Viking invasion. The battle ended in an Anglo-Saxon defeat. An account of the battle is related in an Old English poem, "The Battle of Maldon."
This stained glass window, which was dedicated on 11th August 1991 to mark the millennium of the battle, depicts the traditional last words spoken by the Saxon leader Byrhtnoth as he lay dying on the battlefield. The window is installed in the south aisle of St. Mary's Church, Maldon, and was created by stained glass artist, Mark Angus.
