Unearthly wake

“I am you” whispered the familiar figure, “your qareen.”

“i was the one who cried your tears till my cheeks dried and cracked when you sobbed in front of your mirror, i am the one who heard your cruel words that you spoke as if this was your body alone, i am the one who went to bed with a broken heart that wasn’t mine, i am the one who suffered your mistakes with you, unable to unshackle my self from your pain”

~The Qareen in Arabic/Muslim mythology and folklore is a doppelgänger, they live inside your mirror only when you look in it, they’re floor is your floor but upside down forced to enact every action you do in your waking hours. it was said that if you allow yourself to suffer too much, if you cry before your mirror, your qareen will grow fed up with the pain they are forced to endure by your doing; they will crawl up from the world that binds them and drag you down with them, so that they may be free of your life and have their own.
