Fire and Water in Mangala

The Mangala Fossae region of Mars, seen here by the Mars Express orbiter, shows signs of both catastrophic water floods and large flows of lava. On the left-hand side of this image are smooth, relatively young lava plains estimated to be about 100 meters thick. Learn more.
