Sinaia è una cittadina ubicata nel distretto di Prahova, regione della Muntenia in Romania ed è una gradevole città di montagna a 60 Km. nord-ovest di Ploiesti e 50 Km. a sud di Brasov.
Il suo nome deriva dal monastero ortodosso di Sinaia che prende il nome dal Monte Sinai, dove il Re Carol I° vi costruì la sua dimora estiva, il Castello di Peleş.
Costruito dal 1873 fino al 1914 il Re Carol I°, primo re di Romania della famiglia degli Hohenzolleren, il castello venne progettato in stile rinascimentale tedesco dall'architetto viennese Wilhelm von Doderer e il tedesco Johann Schultz in Lemberg con modifiche apportate dal gotico ceco Karel Liman ed è composto da 160 camere con una torre centrale di 66 m. di altezza.
Costituito da opere d'arte provenienti da tutta Europa, il castello rappresenta una delle migliori costruzioni storiche della Romania e visitato da molti turisti durante l'anno.
Sinaia is a town located in the district of Prahova, region of Muntenia in Romania and is a pleasant mountain town far 60 km north-west of Ploiesti and 50 Km. south of Brasov.
Its name derives from Orthodox monastery Sinaia which takes its name from Mount Sinai, where the King Carol I° built his dwelling summer, the castle of Peleş.
Built from 1873 until 1914 the King Carol I°, first King of Romania of the family of Hohenzolleren, the castle was designed in Renaissance german style by the Viennese architect Wilhelm von Doderer and the German Johann Schultz in Lemberg with amendments made by Gothic Czech Karel at and is composed of 160 rooms with a central tower 66 m. high. Made up of masterpieces from all over Europe, the castle is one of the best historical buildings of Romania and visited by many tourists during the year.
