Colosseo / Roma

The Roman Colosseum in the heart of Rome, Italy. It was the largest amphitheater built during the Roman Empire. Also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, it was commissioned in 72 AD and completed in 80 AD. It could originally hold 55,000 spectators who would come to see games, comedy acts, exotic animals, and gladiators. The south side of the Colosseo fell in an earthquake and other parts of the building, specifically marble, were used to build St. Peter's Basilica ad Palazzo Farnese.
