17 CDV - Civil War Sailor from NJ 1 of 4
Civil War Sailor Chas Mount (Charles Mount). The name of his ship is on his hat but I can only see the last four letters (NANDA). Note the sailor's pocket knife on his belt. He carved his last name into the handle.
Update: The ship may be the USS Canandaigua.
Tax stamp dates this photo between August, 1864 and August, 1866.
From "Record of Officers and Men of New Jersey in the Civil War", 1876, by William Stryker.
Charles W. Mount mustered in on August 11, 1864 and mustered out on May 11, 1865.
Remarks: "U. S. Receiving Ship Ohio at Boston, Mass."
