17 CDV - Civil War Sailor from NJ 1 of 4

Civil War Sailor Chas Mount (Charles Mount). The name of his ship is on his hat but I can only see the last four letters (NANDA). Note the sailor's pocket knife on his belt. He carved his last name into the handle.

Update: The ship may be the USS Canandaigua.

 

Tax stamp dates this photo between August, 1864 and August, 1866.

Remarks: "U. S. Receiving Ship Ohio at Boston, Mass."
