Sul costone roccioso che sormonta l'approdo la famiglia Ventimiglia fece costruire nel XIII secolo il castello della Marina di Tusa (poi Castello di San Giogio), da cui il borgo prenderà il nome attuale. Gli ancora corposi fabbricati della fortezza si ergono sulla scogliera con cui termina una rada naturale. Fino agli inizi del XVIII secolo l’abitato coincideva esattamente con il complesso edilizio, dato dai rimaneggiamenti delle torri, da alcuni ambienti residenziali, da attrezzature di deposito e da stalle che si articolavano sia intorno al baglio meridionale che lungo una corte settentrionale. Il blocco degli originari corpi turriti riesce ancora a svettare sul resto dell’abitato mentre ai piedi della sottostante propaggine rocciosa s’infrange il mare, spiegando come tale struttura fortificata sia nata a presidio di secolari traffici marittimi.
On the clifftop surmounting the landing family Ventimiglia built in the thirteenth century, the castle of Marina di Tusa (later Castle of San Giogio ) , from which the village takes its present name . The full-bodied yet made the fortress stand on the cliff which ends with a natural harbor . Until the beginning of the eighteenth century the town coincided exactly with the building complex , given by rearrangements of the towers , some residential, from equipment storage and stables which is articulated around the southern beam along a northern court . The block of the original bodies turreted still manages to soar while the rest of the town at the foot of the rocky outcrop shattered below the sea , explaining how such a fortified structure was born in defense of secular maritime trade .
