Maid Of Kent

One of two Pullman camping carriages based at Ravenglass station on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. At one time British Rail had camping coaches at various scenic locations around the country, notably Marazion in Cornwall and Dawlish Warren in Devon. Maid of Kent was originally built as an ambulance car by the LNWR in November 1921 (as was Elmira) and was converted into a 1st Class Pullman Car in 1921, by Claytons. It was subsequently rebuilt as a Composite car at Preston Park in Sussex in the 1930s.

It was further rebuilt and declassified to third class at Preston Park in 1948, becoming car 137. It was then converted to a camping coach in 1960, becoming 022262 and being allocated to Ravenglass. It is officially described as a Pullman Kitchen Third
